PISCATAWAY, NJ – Four former Rutgers University baseball players have earned spots on their respective minor league all-star teams. Two Scarlet Knights played in the Class A South Atlantic League All-Star game, while two others will play in the Class AA Southern League mid-year classic.

June-04-03 Esposito Drafted by Toronto Blue Jays
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Junior third baseman Vinny Esposito (Middletown, NJ) was selected in the 22nd round, 650th overall, by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2003 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Esposito is the first Rutgers player selected thus far.

June-02-03 NJCBA All-Star Tilt Ends in 5-5 Tie
PISCATAWAY, NJ – The North squad, trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth, rallied for two runs off RU-Camden closer Dan McKenna to forge a 5-5 tie in today’s New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Senior All-Star game, hosted by Rutgers University.

May-31-03 Esposito’s Return Lifts Rutgers Past Jacksonville, 8-5
TALLAHASSEE, FL – Fitted with a protective mask on his helmet after being hit in the face with a pitch yesterday, junior Vinny Esposito (Middletown, NJ) showed no effects from the injury and altered equipment. Back in the lineup, he delivered an RBI single during a three-run first inning and capped a four-run rally in the seventh with a two-run home run to lead Rutgers past Jacksonville, 8-5, this afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium.

May-31-03 Top-Ranked FSU Ends Rutgers’ Season in 17-7 Regional Loss
TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Rutgers baseball team saw its 2003 season come to an end with an 17-7 loss to top-ranked Florida State tonight in an elimination game at the NCAA Regional at Tallahassee, FL. The Seminoles dropped to the losers’ bracket with an 8-6 loss to South Alabama and scored five runs in the fourth and eight more in the fifth to seal the victory. With the loss, RU ends its season at 37-22.

May-30-03 South Alabama Beats Rutgers, 14-1, in NCAA Opener
TALLAHASSEE, FL – Second-seeded South Alabama entered the NCAA Regional at Tallahassee as the top hitting team and proved it today, beating third-seeded Rutgers 14-1 in the opening contest this afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium. Rutgers tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning, but the Jaguars scored 13 unanswered runs over the final seven innings of play.

May-29-03 Rutgers to Host NJCBA Senior All-Star Game
PISCATAWAY, NJ – The New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association will hold its annual Senior All-Star Game on Monday, June 2 at 3:00 p.m. at Rutgers’ Class of ’53 Baseball Complex. The nine-inning contest will feature the state’s top seniors, providing one final opportunity to showcase their talents for the scouts before the Major League draft on June 3-4.

May-26-03 Rutgers Baseball Headed to Florida State for NCAA Regional
PISCATAWAY, NJ – One year after sitting through an agonizing 30 minutes without an invitation, it took just nine minutes for the Rutgers Baseball team to see its name on locker room television inside the Louis Brown Athletic Center during the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship selection show. The BIG EAST Regular Season Champion-Scarlet Knights (36-20) are seeded third and headed to Tallahassee, FL for the NCAA Division I Baseball Regional at Florida State. Rutgers will face second-seeded South Alabama (40-17) on Friday.

May-25-03 NCAA Announces Baseball Regional Sites
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Phase one of the waiting game for the Rutgers baseball team is over, as the NCAA announced the sites for the 16, four-team first-round regionals this afternoon. Should the Scarlet Knights earn a spot in the 64-team field when the announcement is made on Monday at 12:30 p.m. (espn2), they will surely have a lengthy journey ahead.
