PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers baseball team, under the guidance of head coach Fred Hill, will open its 2004 season on Friday, February 20, when it travels to Williamsburg, VA for a three-game series with William & Mary. The W&M series represents three of 21-consecutive road games before opening play at the Class of ’53 Baseball Complex vs. Rider on Tuesday, March 30.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Sophomores Johnny Defendis (Staten Island, NY) and Jeff Grose (Iselin, NJ) have signed contracts to spend the upcoming summer with the Chatham A’s of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Grose and Defendis were teammates this past summer in Danbury, CT, playing for the Danbury Westerners of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

October-06-03 Badger, Atchison Honored at Annual Baseball Awards Gathering
PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers University baseball team held its annual end-of-season gathering on Sunday, October 4 at the Class of '53 Baseball Complex, officially closing a highly-successful 2003 campaign. After winning the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship with a 19-6 mark, the Scarlet Knights advanced to the tournament finals and earned their fifth NCAA Tournament berth in the last six seasons.

September-02-03 Former RU Standout DeJesus Earns Promotion to KC Royals
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Former Rutgers University All-American David DeJesus (Manalapan, NJ) was promoted to the Kansas City Royals today and will be in uniform when the Royals face the Texas Rangers tonight in Arlington at 8:05 (ET). DeJesus jumps into the middle of a pennant race, as Kansas City (70-65) trails AL Central Division-leading Chicago (73-64) by just two games.

August-13-03 Egbert Dazzles From Start to Finish as Winchester Royals Win Valley League Championship
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Jack Egbert (Rutherford, NJ), a rising junior at Rutgers University and the top pitcher on the Scarlet Knights baseball team in 2003, enjoyed a stellar summer with the Winchester (VA) Royals of the Valley League. Egbert posted a 6-1 record and a 1.75 ERA in leading the Royals to a first place regular season finish and the Valley League Championship this summer.

August-12-03 Badger Named ACBL Most Valuable Player
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers University’s Graig Badger (Union, NJ) was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2003 Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL), which is based in the NY-NJ-PA area. Batting leadoff and playing second base for the New Jersey Colts, Badger led his team to a league-high 30 victories and a first-place finish in the Kaiser Division’s regular season standings.

July-30-03 Badger, Parker Earn All-Star Invites in ACBL
PISCATAWAY, NJ – A pair of soon-to-be seniors – Graig Badger (Union, NJ) and Shaun Parker (Westampton, NJ) – recently participated in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) All-Star game, played on July 14 at Yogi Berra Stadium in Upper Montclair, NJ.

July-29-03 Frazier Earns Spot in Cape League All-Star Game
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rising junior Jeff Frazier (Toms River, NJ) was recently selected to play in the 2003 Cape Cod League All-Star game, which took place in Falmouth, MA on Saturday, July 26. Frazier was a reserve for the East squad, which defeated the West, 3-1. Frazier, who entered the game in the sixth inning and played right field, was 0-for-2 in the contest.

July-02-03 Vasquez Signs with New Jersey Jackals
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Former Rutgers University catcher Alberto Vasquez (Jersey City, NJ) has signed a free agent contract with the New Jersey Jackals of the independent Northern League. Vasquez inked his contract on Tuesday and will join the team today for its game at Elmira.
