PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 12, 2013) – Rutgers baseball has combined digital forces to create a fundraiser to benefit the Vs. Cancer Foundation. The Scarlet Knights have set a goal to raise $10,000 for the cause, as the team will be shaving their heads after the May 5 game at Bainton Field against Connecticut in support.
RU is looking for donations and/or support on or before May 5 to help raise awareness to pediatric cancer. To donate to the effort, click here.
The Vs. Cancer Foundation is dedicated to saving kid’s lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts. It is a non-profit organization, with half of the proceeds given to national cancer research and half to local childhood cancer hospitals and other efforts. Click here for more information.
The effort is being led by senior catcher Jeff Melillo (Annandale, N.J.), who took part in the “BaseBald” program over the summer.
“After having the pleasure of meeting Chase Jones – the founder of the Vs. Cancer Foundation – this summer, my team was able to participate in this amazing event,” Melillo said. “It was a truly rewarding and eye-opening experience that not only raises money, but also awareness for an amazing cause. This entire Rutgers baseball team is eager to participate in and help out in any way possible.”
The Scarlet Knights are one of a number of teams from across the country participating in the fundraiser for childhood cancer research.
