Scarlet Knights add eight to 2015 roster

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 4, 2013) – The Rutgers baseball program is set to welcome eight additions to the 2015 roster, acting head coach Joe Litterio announced Wednesday. The class is made up of three pitchers, two infielders, two catchers and one infielder/outfielder, as all eight hail from New Jersey.

    The group includes C Doug deMarrais (Bernardsville, N.J.), SS Milo Freeman (Millburn, N.J.), RHP Gianni Magliaro (Freehold, N.J.), RHP John O’Reilly (Northvale, N.J.), C Anthony Santoro (Manalapan, N.J.), OF/1B Leo Voreacos (Teaneck, N.J.), 3B Kyle Walker (Piscataway, N.J.) and RHP Alex Wolf (Manalapan, N.J.).

    “We have been able to fill some needs with this class,” said Litterio. “We have been fortunate to be able to sign eight very good high school players that we feel will benefit our program for the next four years.”

    Notes: Heading into third season of varsity baseball at Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan and will serve as a captain during his senior year … played for Farrah Scout this past summer … posted a 7-2 record over 60 innings as a junior, recording a 0.93 ERA with only 30 hits against and 52 strikeouts … named first team all-league and all-county and second team all-state … pitched to a 3-0 mark as a sophomore and competed on the freshman team in first scholastic season … also played on the soccer team, serving as a captain this fall and being selected to the first team all-league and to the Bergen County All-Star Team … played on the varsity team for three full seasons and part as a freshmen … honor roll student and winner of the Student-Athlete Award … served as president of the Chess Club and officer of the Letterman’s Club … member of the Future Business Leaders of America … intends to major in business with a concentration in finance … son of Michael and Roseann O’Reilly … has two older siblings, Michael – who graduated from Quinnipiac in three years and is working towards his doctorate – and Sharon – who is a member of the track team at Bucknell and on the high honor roll … born Oct. 4, 1995.

    Anthony Santoro

    Manalapan, N.J./St. John Vianney High School

    Notes: Heading into his fourth season of varsity baseball as a starter and second as a captain at St. John Vianney … two-time member of the Jersey Shore Carpenter Cup team … ranked as the 25th best player in New Jersey by Perfect Game … accumulated a .403 average with 83 hits, eight home runs, 17 doubles, 55 RBIs and 66 runs through first three seasons on varsity … earned numerous honors as a junior, including All-Monmouth County by the Star-Ledger and All-Shore by the Asbury Park Press for the second time … hit .436 last season and won the varsity Gold Glove Award … earned team Most Valuable Player Award as a sophomore in addition to All-Monmouth County by the Star-Ledger and All-Shore by the Asbury Park Press … hit .439 as a sophomore with 22 RBIs … became the first freshman in school history at SJV to start from the beginning of the season … won varsity Player of the Year and varsity Gold Gove Award that year … played for the North Atlantic team for USA Baseball from 2009-11 and several showcase teams at the national level … earned honor roll status six times academically … took part in Volunteer Liquid Church, Habitat for Humanity, the Multicultural Awareness Club and Sandy Relief Clothes Drive … intends to major in exercise science … son of Danielle Santoro … has a younger sister, Juliana … uncle, Michael Santoro, played three years of professional baseball as a catcher in the Can-Am and Atlantic League … grandfather, Andy Santoro, was also a catcher … born Aug. 7, 1996.
