Recruiting Coordinator

Jim CarrJim Carr is in his 11th campaign with the Scarlet Knights and rotated into the role of recruiting coordinator for the 2009-10 season. During his tenure “On the Banks” he has spent five seasons as an assistant coach.

Carr has served two separate stints on the staff and transitioned to assistant coach prior to the 2004-05 campaign. Recognized by Hoop Scoop as one of the nation’s top assistant coaches, Carr has mentored multiple Scarlet Knights, most notably All-BIG EAST and NBA first round selection Quincy Douby of the Sacramento Kings.

The Freeland, Pa. native began his second stint at Rutgers in September of 2002 as Director of Men’s Basketball Operations, after spending two years as an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Carr, who had previously served in the capacity of Director of Men's Basketball Operations at Rutgers from 1997-2000, has an extensive background that includes 20 years of coaching, administration and recruiting experience at the high school and college levels.

Carr’s extensive international experience has developed valuable recruiting inroads for RU. He was instrumental in the program signing highly-touted prospects from South America (Gregory Echenique), Africa (Hamady Ndiaye) and Europe (Muhamed Hasani) in recent years. He has also coached multiple all-star teams on overseas tours, including trips to the Ukraine and to the Bahamas.

Carr began his coaching career as the athletic director/head basketball coach at the York (Pa.) Country Day school. He has served as an assistant at Kings (Pa.) College and Stroudsburg High School and was the Assistant Director for the Invitational Basketball Camps in Stroudsburg, Pa.

Carr earned a general studies degree from York College in 2000. He and wife Natalie reside in South Plainfield with their infant son Brayden.
