PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 19, 2009) - Phil “The Thrill” Sellers, Rutgers’ all-time leading scorer and rebounder, will be recognized at this Sunday’s (Nov. 22) men’s basketball game versus Vermont as the Scarlet Knights’ “Legend of the Game” in conjunction with the 2009 Legends Classic. Sellers will be recognized at the second media timeout of the first half in the game versus the Catamounts, which tips-off at 4:00 p.m. Other “Legends of the Game” in this year’s Classic include Greg Kelser of Michigan State, Florida’s Andrew DeClerq, Steve Mix of Toledo, Valparaiso’s Bryce Drew and Jim McCoy of UMass.
Sellers’ #12 is one of three men’s basketball jerseys (Bob Lloyd, James Bailey) retired by the State University of New Jersey. In four seasons (1972-76) “On the Banks,” he scored 2,399 points and grabbed 1,111 rebounds. A two-time Haggerty Award winner, Sellers played professionally in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons.
