PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 8, 2010) - Rutgers freshman wing Dane Miller (Henrietta, N.Y.) was named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday after averaging 11.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals to help the Scarlet Knights to a 1-1 record. Miller is averaging 12.5 points-per-game in league contests to leads all BIG EAST rookies in scoring in conference games.
Miller had 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals at Louisville on Saturday. He also had four highlight-reel slam dunks against the Cardinals. On Tuesday, Miller helped the Scarlet Knights to an 84-72 win over St. John’s with five points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Miller has excelled in BIG EAST play and has pounded the offensive glass especially well in league contests, averaging 3.00 offensive rebounds-per-game, which ranks tied for sixth among all players and tied for first among rookies. Among freshman in league games, Miller ranks first in scoring, first in steals (1.55), tied for third in rebounding (6.0), third in assists (2.73), and tied for fifth in blocks (0.64).
Miller has registered double figures seven times in BIG EAST games this season, including 26-point outbursts at Providence (1/9) and versus No. 4 Villanova (1/20). He had his first career double-double in the win over Notre Dame (1/30), scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
