PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 25, 2009) – Head Coach C. Vivian Stringer and the Rutgers women’s basketball team had an open practice on Sunday afternoon at the Louis Brown Athletic Center. For fans, it was their first opportunity to get a look at the 2009-10 squad.
The hundreds of Scarlet Knight faithful in attendance were able to see a 30 minute showcase of drills by the 10 young women, including a scrimmage. After the work-out portion, players and Coach Stringer participated in an autograph session.
The Scarlet Knights return seven letterswinners and two starters from a squad that closed the year with a 21-13 record and a fifth-straight Sweet Sixteen appearance.
Beginning her 15th season at Rutgers and 39th season overall, Stringer has compiled 11 20-win campaigns and 305 wins at RU. The third-winningest coach in women’s basketball history (825 wins) was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this past September.
The season officially begins for the Scarlet Knights on Sunday, Nov. 15 with a 2:00 p.m. contest against the Stanford Cardinal.
