PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 30, 2009) – Rutgers women’s basketball earned a No. 25 ranking in the Associated Press Preseason Poll released on Friday. Associated Press poll voters consist of writers and broadcasters across the nation who cover women’s basketball.
The Scarlet Knights have appeared in 328 AP polls, 10th best in women’s basketball history. This season marks the seventh-straight Rutgers has started the season ranked in the Top-25.
Five BIG EAST schools in total appear in the poll, led by No. 1 Connecticut. Notre Dame is fourth while DePaul and Louisville were ranked 17th and 23rd, respectively.
Other schools in the preseason poll on RU’s schedule are No. 2 Stanford, No. 8 Tennessee, No. 12 Texas and No. 21 Georgia. The Scarlet Knights commence the season on Nov. 15 versus the Cardinal.
The poll appearance is the 387th for head coach C .Vivian Stringer, the third most among active head coaches and fourth-best mark in women’s poll history.
The Scarlet Knights return two starters from a team that advanced to their fifth-straight Sweet Sixteen appearance.
