PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 21, 2009) – Rutgers guard Brittany Ray was selected the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is the first Player of the Week nod for the senior and the third time she has been recognized by the league this season.

Ray registered 28 points in the Scarlet Knights’ 62-53 win over Central Connecticut on Dec. 20. The sharpshooter went 5-of-10 from behind the arc, falling one point short of her career-high. Ray has scored 20 or more points in five games this season and in double figures in 12 games.

On the season, Ray is averaging a team-best 17.2 points, 1.8 steals and shooting 46.6 percent from three-point territory. In addition, she is second on the team in assists with 2.4 per contest.
 
The Bronx, N.Y. product has hit 15 of her team-leading 27 three-pointers over the last four games, shooting 60 percent from long range over the same period. Ray has paced the team in the scoring column in nine games this season, including seven of the last eight.
 
Rutgers (8-5) is idle until Wednesday, Dec. 30 when it travels to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington.
