PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 10, 2012) – Rutgers men’s cross country collected 102 points en route to a fourth-place showing (fourth out of six teams) in its season opener on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Fordham Fiasco Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
The Scarlet Knights had a pair of top-20 finishers led by sophomore Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) and junior Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.). DeFabio placed 14th in a time of 27:14.96, while Richburg took 19th in 27:22.36. Junior Chris Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.) was the third Rutgers runner to score points, finishing 30th in 27:56.85, followed by freshman Jaimin Vekaria (Clinton, N.J.) who took 36th in 28:16.22 and junior Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.) in 37th with a time of 28:22.72.
Also competing for RU at the Fordham Fiasco was senior Casey Weiss () (61th, 29:49.11) and sophomore Brian Well (Piscataway, N.J.) (62nd, 30:01.19).
Rutgers will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 for the Fairfield Invitational in Fairfield, Conn.
