RU Men Open Season With Fifth-Place Showing at Fordham Invite

NEW YORK, NY – The Rutgers men’s cross country team finished their first competition of the season in fifth place at the Fordham Invitational this afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park.

RU finished in the top five of a 17-field invitational with 156 points. The University of Pennsylvania won with 26 points and Columbia followed with 32. Bates and Fordham finished in the third and fourth spots.

Junior Brian Stanziano (Barnegat, NJ) was the top placer (29th) for the Scarlet Knights with a time of 27:46. Ryan Lavender (Neptune, NJ) followed him, placing 43rd with a time of 28:20.

Dan Decosimo (Jackson, NJ) was third for the team, placing 47th with a time of 28:27.76 and Jeremy Klapper (East Windsor, NJ) placed 49th at 28:30. Rich Seitz (High Bridge, NJ) ran in 28:35 for 51st place to round out the Scarlet Knight scorers.

The team will compete again on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Metropolitan Championships in Van Cortlandt Park, NYC.
