Junior Cronin Wins Fordham Fiasco To Lead the Scarlet Knights

BRONX, N.Y. - The Rutgers men’s and women’s cross country teams opened its respective 2009 campaigns on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Fordham Fiasco at Van Cortlandt Park. The Scarlet Knight men placed third with 94 points, while the women finished fourth after accumulating 121 points.
 
RU took the top two places with juniors Kevin Cronin (Linwood, N.J.) and Nick Miehe (Elmwood Park, N.J.) leading the pack. Cronin won the event with a time of 26.55.54, followed by runner-up Miehe in 27:00.02.
 
Senior Jayram Sataluri (Holmdel, N.J.) contributed to the team score with a 16th-place finish, clocking a time of 27:49.42. Sophomore Benjamin Forrest (Jackson, N.J.) posted a time of 28:17.27, adding to the team’s overall performance with a 34th-place showing while senior Michael Crum (Andover, N.J.) rounded out the scoring, finishing 41st in 28:22.01.
 
On the women’s side, sophomore Kelly Flanagan (Middletown, Conn.) led the group, finishing 16th with a time of 19:01.80. Next to cross the line was classmate Kristen Johnson (Middletown, N.J.) who took 19th place in 19:05.71. Freshman Elise Brevert (Metuchen, N.J.) placed 25th in 19:27.64, followed by sophomore Marina Vineis (Ringwood, N.J.) who finished 29th in 19:33.07, while Lindsay Bertulis (Cedarville, N.J.) took 37th in 19:46.12.
 
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Saturday, Sept.19, at the Iona College Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
