BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Rutgers women’s cross country team competed at the 2009 Brooks Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh on Friday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa. A total of 39 teams participated in the event as Rutgers placed fourth with 287 points and had strong results from all their student-athletes.
Sophomore Kelly Flannigan (Middletown, Conn.) led the team with her season best 6k time of 22:58 and placed 53rd. Coming in 54th was teammate Lindsay Bertulis (Cedarville, N.J.) also running her season best 6k with a time of 22:58.
Placing 57th overall was newcomer Victoria Pontecorvo (Staten Island, N.Y.) who finished with a time of 23:00. Freshman Elise Brevet (Metuchen, N.J.) and sophomore Kristen Johnson (Middletown, N.J.) placed 60th and 63rd with times of 23:03 and 23:06. Asha Singh (Flemington, N.J.) and Marina Vineis (Ringwood, N.J.) finished 72nd and 78th with times of 23:15 and 23:20. Johnson, Brevet, and Singh all ran their season best 6k.
The Scarlet Knights will compete again on October 9th at the Metropolitan Championships in the Bronx, N.Y.
