KENOSHA, Wis. (October 31, 2009) – The Rutgers men’s and women’s cross country teams each competed in the 2009 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct.31, at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. The men’s squad finished 12th out of 14 teams, while the women were 13th among 16 schools.
Graduate student Taylor Burmeister (Concord, Mass.) paced the Scarlet Knights in the 8k race, finishing 46th in 26:51, followed by the next RU finisher junior Nick Miehe (Elmwood Park, N.J.), who took 55th in 27:15. Senior Michael Crum (Andover, N.J.) was Rutgers’ third runner to cross the finish line (72nd overall), clocking a time of 27:44, while junior Kevin Cronin (Linwood, N.J.) and senior Jayram Sataluri (Holmdel, N.J.) rounded out the scoring placing 78th and 79th, respectively. Cronin ran a time of 28:05, followed by Sataluri, who was a second behind in 28:06.
Sophomore Ben Forrest (Jackson, N.J.) and senior Andrew Morris (Sewell, N.J.) also competed for the Scarlet Knights, taking 81st and 87th, respectively. Forrest posted a time of 28:34, while Morris finished in 29:14.
The Rutgers men averaged a time of 27:37 with a total time of 2:18.01.
On the women’s side, sophomore Kelly Flannigan (Middletown, Conn.) led the Scarlet Knights, finishing the 6k race in 55th place with a time of 23:22. Freshman Lindsay Bertulis (Cedarville, N.J.) was next for RU, placing 78th in 24:34, while classmate Jennifer Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.) ran a time of 24:40 to take 80th.
The Scarlet Knights received additional scoring from sophomore Marina Vineis (Ringwodd, N.J.) and freshman Victoria Pontecorvo (Staten Island, N.Y.), who finished back-to-back with Vineis placing 84th in 24:44, followed by Pontecorvo in 85th with a time of 24:49. Also running for RU was junior Asha Singh (Flemington, N.J.) and freshman Anjelica Brinkofski (Somerset, N.J.). Singh placed 94th in 25:12 and Brinkofski took 97th in 25:21.
The Rutgers women averaged a time of 24:26 with a total time of 2:02.09.
