PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 5, 2012) –  Rutgers field hockey (7-6) kicked off the month of October by downing conference opponent Georgetown (2-11) Friday evening in a 5-1 victory in College Park, Md.  Lisa Patrone (Washington Township, N.J.) and Alyssa Bull (Oakville, Ontario) led the attack for the Scarlet Knights with three and two goals, respectively.  RU improved its conference record to 1-3 on the season.

The Hoyas came out with an early attack from Annie Wilson, who put up the first and only points of the game for Georgetown. Sarah Butterfield was credited with the assist.

After back-and-forth action between the squads, the Scarlet Knights utilized a Danielle Freshnock (Middletown, N.J.) corner late in the first half. After a pass to the middle, sophomore Jenn Staab (Marmora, N.J.) connected with Bull to tuck away a goal and tie up the game at one.

In just the first two minutes of the second half of action, team point and goal leader, Patrone, knocked in a goal off another Freshnock corner putting RU up, 2-1.

With Rutgers up, Bull continued the attack putting a shot sharp on the post. Chelsea Rota (Langhorne, Pa.) grabbed the rebound and sent a ball to Patrone who dove to slot a goal past the Georgetown keeper.

Ten minutes later, Staab found Bull on another penalty corner opportunity, and Bull sent a ball to the back of the cage, good to put RU up four goals to one.

To take home the game for the Scarlet Knights, Patrone dribbled up the right side of the field and knocked in her third goal of the game. Patrone’s goal, marking her first hat trick of her career, sealed the win for Rutgers with a 5-1 victory.

In goalkeeper action, Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) made four saves on the day, and senior Vickie Lavell (Haddon Township, N.J.) saw her first minutes of the season.

RU improves its series record over Georgetown 10-6. The Rutgers win gave the Hoyas their seventh-straight loss of the 2012 season.

Rutgers returns home to face BIG EAST foe Louisville at 3 p.m. next Friday at Bauer Track and Field Complex.  In same-weekend play, the Scarlet Knights will head to Lafayette for a matchup on Sunday at 2 p.m.
