PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 19, 2012) – Despite getting on the board first, the Rutgers field hockey team (8-8, 2-4) fell to Providence College (9-6, 3-2) by a score of 2-1 Friday night at Lennon Family Field.

Sophomore midfielder Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) struck first 31 minutes into the game. Freshman Alyssa Bull (Oakville, ON, Canada) dished off to Wright, who tipped it in for the score. It marked Wright’s sixth goal of the year.

The Friars scored back-to-back goals 15 minutes after halftime. Henni Tietze scored off a corner in the 50th minute. Caitlin Malone started the play, passing to Kaleigh Fitzpatrick, who tipped it to Tietze for the score.

The PC game-winning goal came just two minutes later. Daniella Bernasconi deflected a Hillary Anderson pass on a diving slide, putting the ball just past the right post.

Goalkeeper Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) made four saves in the effort.

RU stays in Providence, facing Brown on Sunday, Oct. 21 at noon.
