PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 19, 2012) – Rutgers field hockey junior Lisa Patrone (Washington Township, N.J.) and freshman Alyssa Bull (Oakville, Ontario) were named to the 2012 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team after their accomplishments in the 2012 season.
The Scarlet Knights finished with a 9-10 (2-4 BIG EAST) overall record under first-year head coach Meredith Long, and fell just short of heading to the BIG EAST Championships. RU faced six nationally ranked opponents and took down then-No. 19 Albany, 3-2, when Bull notched her first goal as a Scarlet Knight.
Bull, the first player in program history to be named BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, finished the season tied as the second leading scorer for the Scarlet Knights with five goals, seven assists, and 19 points. She started and played in each of RU’s 19 games. The freshman finished in a three-way tie for first in league play with two defensive saves. Bull recorded two of her five goals against ranked opponents (No. 19 Albany on Aug. 24 and No. 6 Maryland on Oct. 26), and tucked away two goals in the victory over Georgetown on Oct. 5.
In addition to her NFHCA recognition, Patrone was also named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second year in a row. She finished the season starting in 18 of 19 possible games, and leading the Scarlet Knights in points with 18 and goals with eight. Earlier in the season she received BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after a six-point effort to push Rutgers over Georgetown, 5-1. In Patrone’s breakout season, she has blown out her five career goals and 16 career points. Patrone was also a member of the New Jersey squad who won the 2012 Women’s National Championship last summer.
