PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 8, 2012) – Rutgers senior linebacker Khaseem Greene (Elizabeth, N.J.) was named to the Associated Press All-America (Third Team) Tuesday. It marked the fourth All-America honor for Greene this postseason (Walter Camp Football Foundation Second Team All-America, AT&T ESPN All-America, CBSSports.com Third Team All-America).

Greene is the ninth player in school history to be named to one of the three Associated Press All-America teams. He is the first Scarlet Knight to receive the honor since wide receiver Kenny Britt in 2008. He is the first linebacker in school history to attain AP All-America status.

Greene was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. Greene was the second player in BIG EAST history to win the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year award in consecutive seasons, joining Corey Moore of Virginia Tech (1998, 1999).

Greene led Rutgers with 125 tackles and six forced fumbles to lead the nation’s No. 4 ranked scoring defense. He finished with 5.5 sacks and two interceptions from his weakside linebacker position.

The Elizabeth native is fifth in school history with 376 career tackles. Greene finished with a career-high 22 tackles (6 solo, 16 assists) in the Army win. It was the fourth-highest total by a player in the nation in 2012.

Rutgers finishes the 2012 season with its seventh bowl appearance in the last eight years at the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando. Kickoff between Rutgers and Virginia Tech is set for Friday, December 28 at 5:30 p.m. from the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Rutgers fans are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets through Rutgers for the best seating options available for the game. Tickets for the Russell Athletic Bowl are available online (http://RutgersBowl.com), by phone (1-866-455-GORU) and in-person at the Rutgers Ticket Office during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.).
