    PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 3, 2013) – Rutgers senior CB Brandon Jones (Sicklerville, N.J) ha ssigned a free agent contract with the New England Patriots. Jones is the 11th player from last season’s BIG EAST Championship squad to land on a NFL roster as he joins five former teammates in New England

    Rutgers finished the 2013 NFL Draft with a school-record seven players selected including third round selections CB Logan Ryan and FS Duron Harmon to New England. LB Khaseem Greene went to Chicago in the fourth round and TE D.C. Jefferson (Arizona), RB Jawan Jamison (Washington), LB Steve Beauharnais (New England) and CB Marcus Cooper (San Francisco) were picked in the seventh round.

    New England drafted three RU players, the most by any NFL team in one NFL Draft.

    The seven players selected in the NFL Draft for Rutgers broke the previous high of five set in 2009.

    2012: Played in all 13 games, recording 31 tackles and five interceptions … totaled nine pass breakups … broke the game open with a 14-yard INT return in the fourth quarter for his first career TD in the season-opening 24-12 win at Tulane (9/1) … set a new career-high with three pass breakups vs. the Green Wave … scooped and scored on a blocked punt by WR Miles Shuler in the 26-0 win vs. Howard (9/8), returning the ball six yards to score a touchdown for the second-straight game … earned BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week (9/10) for his performance against the Bison … stopped a second quarter USF drive in its tracks with his second interception of the season in the 23-13 win over the Bulls (9/13) … two pass breakups and one tackle in the 35-26 victory at Arkansas (9/22) … intercepted his third pass of the season and recorded four tackles in the 23-15 win vs. Syracuse (10/13) … three tackles and recorded one fumble recovery in the Kent State game (10/27) … brought in a season-best six tackles in the 10-3 win at Cincinnati (11/17) … five tackles in the Pitt game (11/24), including 0.5 tackle-for-loss, which tied a season-best … two interceptions in the Russell Athletic Bowl (12/28) versus Virginia Tech ...three-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Football Team.

    2011: Earned a starting role at cornerback after going into preseason camp in a position battle with Mason Robinson, starting all 13 games opposite Logan Ryan … second career interception and blocked a late field goal attempt to protect RU’s lead in the 21-20 victory over Navy (10/15) … BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week (10/17) for his blocked FG vs. Navy … set a career-high in tackles with eight stops, including half a tackle-for-loss, in the 20-17 overtime win vs. USF (11/5) … recorded the first sack of his career along with a key interception late in the 20-3 win vs. Cincinnati (11/19) … stripped Bearcat quarterback Munchie Legaux of the ball on the sack for first forced fumble of career, setting up RU’s first score of the game … notched the second sack of the season and his career in the 27-13 victory over Iowa State (12/30) in the 2011 Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium, totaling three tackles in the game ... member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Football Team.

    2010: Competed in all 12 games at cornerback … 11 tackles on the season with a season-high three stops on two occasions at Cincinnati (11/20) and at West Virginia (12/4) … first career fumble recovery and tackle-for-loss against the Mountaineers … recipient of the Most Improved Scholar Athlete Award at team awards banquet … member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Football Team.

    2009: Cornerback who saw action in 11 games ... posted a tackle in six contests … madecollegiate debut on opening kickoff vs. Cincinnati (9/12) … started first career game and recorded first career interception vs. USF (11/12) ... sealed victory with first career fumble recovery on final play at Connecticut (10/31).

    2008: Did not see game action.

    Prior to Rutgers: One of the top wide receivers in South Jersey who also excelled on defense … played on the prep level for coach Michael McBride at Winslow Township High School … stellar senior season included eight interceptions and 54 tackles on defense … returned two interceptions for touchdowns and recovered four fumbles … returned 24 punts for 425 yards and a touchdown … equally impressive on the offensive side of the ball with 47 receptions for 997 yards and 10 touchdowns … rated the No. 29 prospect in the state of New Jersey by Rivals.com … Second Team All-South Jersey selection and First Team All-Group 3 by the Courier-Post … helped lead Winslow Township to a 7-3 record and a spot in the NJSIAA South Group III state semifinals … attended same high school as fellow Scarlet Knight Ka’Lial Glaud … born 11/2/89 … a Labor Studies major.
