PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 16, 2009) – Former Rutgers standout linebacker and current Indianapolis Colt Gary Brackett will be honored at halftime of tonight’s game between the Scarlet Knights and Pittsburgh.
A native of Glassboro, Brackett was the 11th annual recipient of the Arthur S. Arkush Humanitarian Award by Pro Football Weekly. The award is presented to an NFL player “whose contributions to the community and charitable organizations are especially outstanding.”
Brackett won the Humanitarian Award thanks to his continuous work with the IMPACT Foundation, a charity he founded in the spring of 2007. The IMPACT Foundation works hard to provide children affected by cancer with unique opportunities and resources they might not otherwise receive.
Brackett has been a starter at middle linebacker for the Colts since 2005 and has been a team captain since 2007.
Rutgers will also honor former women’s basketball star Cappie Pondexter at halftime. Pondexter helped guide the Phoenix Mercury to the 2009 WNBA Championship as the Mercury captured their second WNBA crown in the past three years. Pondexter also was part of the Gold Medal winning USA Women’s Basketball team at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
