PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 2, 2009) – The BIG EAST Conference announced Monday that two Rutgers standouts are Player of the Week recipients. Senior WR Tim Brown (Miami, Fla.) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week while senior CB Devin McCourty (Nanuet, N.Y.) collected the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week honor. In addition, senior LB Damaso Munoz (Miami, Fla.) was named to the league’s honor roll.
It is the first player of the week honor for both Brown and McCourty.
All three were key players in Rutgers’ thrilling 28-24 comeback victory at Connecticut Saturday to move the Scarlet Knights to 6-2 on the season.
Brown had five receptions for 162 yards and two touchdowns — including the game-winning 81-yard TD with 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter — to lift Rutgers to a win at Connecticut. Brown averaged 32.4 yards per catch against the Huskies and also scored on a 37-yard reception in the second quarter. Brown’s game-winner came just 16 seconds after Connecticut had taken its first lead of the game.
McCourty returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in the win. It was the Scarlet Knights’ first touchdown on a kickoff return since Willie Foster went 93 yards for a score against Villanova Sept. 10, 2005. McCourty also downed a third-quarter punt on the Connecticut 2-yard line.
Munoz collected weekly honor roll accolades after posting seven tackles and an interception vs. UConn.
The Scarlet Knights return to action Thursday, Nov. 12 vs. No. 25 USF at Rutgers Stadium. ESPN’s Thursday primetime crew of Chris Fowler, Craig James, Jesse Palmer and Erin Andrews will call the action.
