PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 20, 2011) – Rutgers defensive end Jonathan Freeny (Tampa, Fla.) and linebacker Antonio Lowery (Miami, Fla.) have been invited to play in the inaugural Eastham Energy College All-Star Game on Sunday, January 23.
The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Arizona, Fox Sports West, Fox Prime Ticket Southwest and Fox College Sports nationally.
Freeny and Lowery will be on the Stars squad for the game.
Lowery led Rutgers in tackles in 2010 with 108, the most by a Scarlet Knight since current Jacksonville Jaguars starting safety Courtney Greene totaled 116 in 2005. Lowery received the David Bender Trophy at the annual Rutgers Touchdown Club Awards Banquet, given to the top defensive front seven player on the squad. In 47 career games, Lowery totaled 189 tackles.
Freeny played in 46 games over his four-year career in Piscataway and finished with 93 tackles, 20.5 for loss and 11 sacks. The Tampa native led Rutgers’ 2009 squad with 9.5 sacks.
The Eastham Energy College All-Star Game benefits local charities, including Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors, which was created to build homes for wounded veterans; and Native American Connections, an Arizona-based non-profit organization that addresses the needs of at-risk and homeless youth.
