County Kerry, Ireland – The Rutgers men’s golf team placed third with a 631 (334-297) score at the Waterville Collegiate Classic, played Monday and Tuesday at the highly-challenging Waterville Golf Links. The Scarlet Knights hosted the tournament, marking the first time an American University has hosted a team event in Ireland.
Junior Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) had the best round of the event on Tuesday, carding a one-under 71. He placed tied for sixth in the 28-player field with a 156 (85-71). He had a tournament-best seven birdies.
Sophomore Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) joined Renza in the top 10. He shot a 158 (79-79) to place ninth.
Junior Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.), sophomore Hyung Mo Kim (Norwood, N.J.) and freshman Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.), comprised the rest of the team scorecard. Walters placed tied for 19th with a 164 (90-74), Kim finished tied for 19th with a 164 (80-84) and Chang placed 22nd with a 165 (92-73).
Davison won the Intercollegiate with a 618 (312-306), besting second place Richmond (317-309=626) by eight strokes. Washington & Jefferson placed fourth with a 652 (334-318). Davidson’s John Skeadas was the individual champion with a 150 (75-75).
