Bethlehem, Pa. (October 21, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s golf team placed second with a 596 (300-296) total at the eight-team Lehigh Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Junior Doug Walters (Blairstown, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 146 (75-71) to finish tied for third in the 45-player field.
Sophomore Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.) also performed well, placing just outside the top ten. He shot a 150 (77-73) to finish tied for 11th.
Freshman Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.), junior Jonathan Renza (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) and senior John Fagan (Flemington, N.J.) comprised the rest of the team scorecard. Chang tied for 16th with a 151 (71-80), Renza was 18th with a 153 (80-73) and Fagan tied for 23rd with a 156 (77-79).
Villanova won the Invitational with a 580 (284-296). The Wildcats boasted the individual champion and had four competitors among the top six.
The event marked the final tournament of the fall season for the Scarlet Knights, who are under the leadership of head coach Rob Shutte.
