PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers University men’s golf team has signed three student-athletes – Matt Holuta, Jack Panagos, and Toks Pedro – for the 2014-2015 season, Head Coach Rob Shutte announced.
Holuta joins the Scarlet Knights from Indiana, Pa. As a member of the Indiana Area High School team, Holuta has been a two-time captain and a three-time State Championship Finalist. The Pennsylvania native holds the title as the 2010 IGJT Olde Stonewall Champion, as well as the 2011 IJGT Penn Oaks Champion. Holuta earned a third-place finish at the 2011 IJGT Tournament of Champions, carding a 76-74-68. He also played in the 2013 US Junior Amatuer Championship, qualifying with a 72-68. Most recently, Holuta placed 10th at the 2013 AJGA Annapolis, with a 76-74-69.
Panagos served as a two-time team captain for Hillsborough High School. The Hillsborough, N.J. native earned the title as the 2011 Florida Junior Golf Tour Jr. Match Play Champion. At the 2012 HJGTA Mid-Season Championship, the Garden State product recorded a 72-74-72 to place third. Panagos finished first at the 2013 IJGT Arcitects Cup, carding a 70-69.
Out of Lagos, Nigeria, Pedro joins the roster from the Hilton Head Preparatory School in Hilton Head, S.C. One of his earliest achievements includes the title as 2008 Nigeria Cup Champion. The Lagos native represented Nigeria in the 2013 Junior World Golf Championship at Torrey Pines. The Hilton Head Prep product placed first in the 2013 Veritas World Junior, carding a 70-72-71. Pedro has made multiple appearances in HJGT competition, including a second-place finish in 2013 HJGT at Jekyll Island. He placed first at both the 2013 HJGT at Golden Bear Golf Club (73-70) and the 2013 HJGT at Palmetto Dunes (72-70). Pedro earned a sixth-place finish at the 2013 Optimist International Tournament of Champions.
