SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The 10th-seeded Rutgers men’s golf team dropped a 4.5-1.5 decision to No. 2 seed Louisville before falling 3.5-2.5 to No. 11-seed USF Saturday in match play Saturday at Pine Needles Golf Club. The Scarlet Knights play fourth seed Cincinnati on Sunday for seventh place in the event that features eleven BIG EAST golf teams.

RU freshman Gene Yang (East Brunswick, N.J.), playing in third position, defeated Louisville’s Karsten Clements, while sophomore Andrew Tursky (Hillsborough, N.J.) earned a split against UofL’s Lewis at the sixth spot. The Cardinals advanced to play No. 1 seed Notre Dame for the tournament championship.

Versus the Bulls, seniors James Arbes (Westfield, N.J.) and Jordan Gibbs (Princeton, N.J.) earned victories, while classmate J.F. Sorbella (Port Chester, N.Y.) captured a split. USF plays Georgetown in the fifth place match on Sunday.

The Scarlet Knights opened the tournament by defeating seventh-seeded Marquette on Friday.

The teams were seeded based on Golfstat rankings. Six players compete for each team in match play with a point on the line for each of the twosomes. If two players end in a tie after 18 holes, the point is halved. If two teams are tied at 3-3 following the six matches, the team with the most holes won will be declared the winner of the match. Such was the case with the Rutgers-Marquette match.

Pine Needles is a par-71, 7,015-yard course. The Donald Ross-designed course was the site of the 2001 Women's U.S. Open.  RD2 RESULTS  RD3 RESULTS  RD4 PAIRINGS
