SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The 10th-seeded Rutgers men’s golf team dropped a 4.0-2.0 decision to No. 4 seed Cincinnati on Sunday to finish eighth in a match play tournament that featured eleven BIG EAST golf teams at Pine Needles Golf Club.
Senior team captain Jordan Gibbs (Princeton, N.J.) defeated Bearcat Matt Leadom, while classmate J.F. Sorbella (Port Chester, N.Y.) and sophomore Andrew Tursky (Hillsborough, N.J.) earned splits, to pace the Scarlet Knights.
Gibbs performed especially well in the tournament, capturing victories in three of his four matches. He also downed his opponent against Marquette and USF.
Seniors Jimmy Hilaire (Fishkill, N.Y) and James Arbes (Westfield, N.J.), as well as freshman Gene Yang (East Brunswick, N.J.), comprised the rest of the competing six on Sunday. It marked the final event of the fall season for the Scarlet Knights.
RU squared-off against four BIG EAST foes in a span of three days on the par-71, 7,015-yard course. The Scarlet Knights opened the tournament by defeating seventh-seeded Marquette on Friday. The teams were seeded based on Golfstat rankings.
No. 2-seed Louisville defeated top-seeded Notre Dame, 3.5-2.5, on Sunday to win the match play team championship. RESULTS
