Lewisburg, Pa. – The Rutgers women’s golf team is tied for second place with a 620 (310-310) score after the opening two rounds of the Bucknell Invitational, played Saturday at Bucknell Golf Course. The Scarlet Knights are just two strokes off the lead entering Sunday’s third and final round.
Sophomore Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) paced RU on day one, carding a 151 (76-75) to sit tied for third in the 83-player field. Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) joined Maxoutopoulis in the top 10, shooting a 152 (76-76) to enter the final 18 holes tied for fifth.
Freshman Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.), playing in her initial collegiate event, was also impressive. She posted a 157 (76-81) on the par 70, 5,981-yard course to place 18th.
Senior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) and freshman Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) comprised the rest of the team scorecard. Cash is tied for 31st with a 161 (82-79) and Moyal is tied for 35th with a 162 (82-80).
Radford (618) used a second-round 304 to take a two-stroke lead over the Scarlet Knights and Seton Hall. Boston University is in fourth place at 621, followed by Columbia (629), Lehigh (631), Robert Morris (640), Bucknell (643), Cleveland State (649), Saint Francis (Pa.) (649), Wagner (657), Kutztown (686), St. Francis (N.Y.) (735), McDaniel (742) and Navy (754).
The final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
