Lewisburg, Pa. (September 9, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s golf team finished tied for second with a 931 (310-310-311) score at the 15-team Bucknell Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at Bucknell Golf Course. The Scarlet Knights, who had a tournament best 144 pars, placed just one stroke off the pace in their initial tournament of the fall season.
Sophomore Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) and senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) led RU, finishing tied for fifth with 229 totals. Maxoutopoulis (76-75-78) had six birdies and was even in par five scoring. Weddell (76-76-77) had 32 pars.
Freshman Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.), playing in her initial collegiate event, was also impressive. She posted a 235 (76-81-78) on the par 70, 5,981-yard course to place 17th. Chambers had 30 pars.
Freshman Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) and senior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) comprised the rest of the team scorecard. Moyal placed 27th with a 240 (82-80-78) and Cash tied for 31st with a 242 (82-79-81).
Boston University won the tournament with a 930 (317-304-309), besting the Scarlet Knights and Seton Hall by a single stroke. Terrier Kristyna Pavlickova captured individual medalist honors with a 22 (75-71-74).
The Scarlet Knights, under the leadership of head coach Maura Ballard, return to the links Sept 21-23 at the Yale Intercollegiate in New Haven, Conn
