RU Women’s Golf In First Place After Opening Day of Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers women’s golf team finished the opening day of the Rutgers Invitational in first place with a team score of 328. The leader board finds three BIG EAST teams atop, with St. John’s (331) just three strokes behind in second place and Georgetown (333) in third, five strokes back.

Freshman Jeannine Mondesando (Mahwah, NJ) leads all 87 competitors in individual play, carding a three over 75 on Friday. She holds a two stroke lead over the Red Storm’s Jacylyn Sanders, who shot a 77. Mary Stewart (Scottsdale, AZ) is tied for eighth overall with a score of 80 on Friday. Senior Kathleen Freer (Voorhees, NJ) shot an 85 on Friday, tying her for 30th place. Sophomore Caitlin Flynn (Fairfield, CT) is tied for 45th after the opening day with a score of 88. Sophomore Noel Picca (Irving, TX) shot a 92 on Friday, tying her for 59th after round one.

Two Scarlet Knight golfers competed individually in the tournament. Junior Amanda Lennox (Narragansett, RI) shot an 85 on Friday and is tied for 30th overall. Sophomore Kathleen Kennedy (Annandale, NJ) is in a tie for 40th place after carding an opening round score of 87.

The Scarlet Knights will wrap up the Rutgers Invitational on Saturday. Schools will tee-off between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
