Rutgers Tied for 6th at Brown BEAR Invitational

BARRINGTON, RI – The Rutgers Women’s Golf Team is tied for sixth with a 320 score at the 14-team Brown BEAR Invitational, played Sunday at the Rhode Island Country Club. Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) paced RU one day one with a four-over 76 to enter Monday tied for sixth in the 84-competitor field.

The Scarlet Knights competed in the afternoon and battled cold and windy conditions.  Weather is expected to improve on day two.

Weddell was joined in the top 10 by freshman Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.), who is tied for ninth with a 77. Weddell, who is one stroke off the pace, has three birdies. Moyal also has three birdies and is plus three in par four scoring.

Freshmen Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.), Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.) and Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) comprise the remainder of the team scorecard, as RU has four rookies in its competing five. Sacheli is tied for 30th with an 81, while Chambers and Zurick are both tied for 55th with 86’s.

Yale paces the field with a 309, three strokes better than second place Harvard (312). Columbia is in third place with a 315. Five players are tied for the lead after carding 75 in the opening round.

Monday's final round is scheduled for a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.  Play is expected to conclude by 2:00 p.m. with the awards ceremony immediately following. Competing teams also include host Brown, Boston U., Dartmouth, Lehigh, LIU, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, Siena and St. John's.
