KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Rutgers women’s golf is tied for 33rd with a 340 team total on the Cougar Point Course on Sunday in the opening round of the Kiawah Island Classic. The 36-team event, hosted by the College of Charleston, is the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country and features five teams from the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Sophomore Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) and freshman Maddy Gedeon (Roseville, Calif.) both carded 83 to enter Monday tied for 129th in the 192-player field.
Sophomore Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.), freshman Taylor Clark (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and sophomore Jackie Mullens (Brookside, N.J.) comprise the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Sacheli is tied for 149th with an 86, Clark is tied for 160th with an 88 and Mullens is 191st with a 100.
Troy is in first place with a 291. Jacksonville State, Kent State and St. John's are all just one shot back at 292. Troy’s Taylor McGraw, St. John’s Anna Kim and Kent State’s Wad Phaewchimplee are tied atop the leaderboard after carding three-under par 69’s in the opening round.
The Scarlet Knights will play Oak Point on Monday. For Tuesday's final round to conclude the 54-hole event, the top 19 teams will play for the championship on Cougar Point, with the remaining 17 teams playing at Oak Point.
