RESTON, VA – The Rutgers women’s golf team opened its spring season on Saturday and Sunday, March 22 and 23, placing Eighth at the Georgetown Hoya Invitational. The Scarlet Knights carded a 671 (339-332) for the two days.
The University of Pennsylvania took first place honors in the 14-team event with a two-round score of 631 (317-314). Princeton’s Avery Kiser took the individual title with a two-over-par 146 (75-71).
Leading the Scarlet Knights, tying for seventh place overall, was sophomore Mary Stewart (Scottsdale, AZ) who registered an aggregate score of 158 (80-78). Senior Katie Freer (Voorhees, NJ) placed 31st overall with a two-round score of 168 (85-83). Two Scarlet Knights tied for 45th place as sophomores Caitlin Flynn (Fairfield, CT) and Katie Kennedy (Annandale, NJ) both fired rounds of 87 on Saturday and Sunday to finish with a 176 for the tournament. Sophomore Noel Picca (Irving TX) tied for 49th out of 79 competitors with a two-day score of 176 (92-84).
The women will compete at the William and Mary Invitational this Saturday through Sunday, March 29-30, at the Ford’s Colony’s Blackheath Course in Williamsburg, VA.
