Alexis Gunzelman won the EAGL Team MVP for the second-straight year.

PITTSBURGH (March 23, 2012) – Four Rutgers University gymnasts were named All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League, with sophomore Alexis Gunzelman (Tabernacle, N.J.) winning the team EAGL MVP Award at the annual conference banquet Friday in Pittsburgh. Junior Danielle D’Elia (Colts Neck, N.J.), junior Jenna Zito (Rockaway, N.J.) and sophomore Alyssa Straub (Nazareth, Pa.) also took home honors for excellence throughout the season.

Gunzelman, who posted a 38.850 all-around regional qualifying score (RQS), won the EAGL Team MVP for the second time in as many years and represents the Scarlet Knights as First Team All-EAGL All-Around after appearing in all events in every meet this season. She also earned Second Team All-Floor Exercise and Second Team All-Uneven Bars with an RQS of 9.815 and 9.775, respectively.

D’Elia took a spot on the Second Team All-Floor Exercise for the second time in her career, posting a 9.795 RQS. The junior recorded a season-high 9.850 in the event in the final regular season meet on March 16.

Straub won All-EAGL honors for the first time in the all-around, making Second Team. The sophomore had an RQS of 37.560 in seven meets taking part in all four events. Her high-water mark of the season was a 38.625 performance on Feb. 4 at Pittsburgh.

Zito, who was named Second Team All-Around in 2011, had a consistent season to merit a selection as Second Team All-Floor Exercise. She tied for the team lead with a 9.815 RQS mark in 10 meets, going as high as 9.875 in the event on Feb. 25.

The four honorees and the rest of the Scarlet Knights are set to compete in the EAGL Championships on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Fitzgerald Field House.
