  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 21, 2013) – Coming off the best road performance in program history, Rutgers gymnastics heads west this weekend to compete in a quad meet at No. 13 Denver with No. 16 Boise State and Utah State Saturday at 8 p.m. ET inside Hamilton Gymnasium. It will be the third-straight week the Scarlet Knights compete away.

“This will be another test for us away from our home gym,” head coach Louis Levine said. “I was proud of how we competed last week at Maryland and look forward to seeing what we can do at Denver. This is another opportunity to prove ourselves against two strong teams.”

The Scarlet Knights put together four strong events last time out at Maryland to record a season-high 195.050 team score. It was the third-best score in program history and best under Levine. Juniors Alexis Gunzelman (Tabernacle, N.J.) and Luisa Leal (Cali, Columbia) were both used as all-arounders for the first time this season in the meet. The floor exercise was the high-score (49.025) once again, with the team clearing 49.000 for the second time this year.

Denver, a member of the Western Athletic Conference, comes in at No. 13 in the nation with a 195.796 average. The Pioneers are in the top 20 in all four events, with a No. 11 ranking on both the uneven bars and floor exercise. Last weekend, the program posted a 195.850 to defeat Illinois Chicago on the road. Head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart is in his 15th season.

Utah State is also in the WAC and scored a 193.225 last weekend in a meet at San Jose State. The Aggies used two all-arounders, scoring highest as a team on the vault (48.825). Jeff Richards is in his fifth year as the head coach.

Added to the meet Thursday, Boise State will compete in Denver after inclement weather did not allow the team to travel to Nebraska this weekend. The Broncos are No. 16 nationally and scored a 195.575 last time out in a quad meet at Oklahoma. The program is led by co-head coaches Tina Bird and Neil Resnick, who are in their sixth season together.

Following the meet, RU will return home for Senior Day March 2 at the Livingston Recreation Center. The event will be broadcast live on RVision, presented by AT&T.
