  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Jan. 9, 2013) – The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team released its 2013 schedule, which includes 15 regular season games, head coach Brian Brecht announced Wednesday. With 11 home games and four road contests, the Scarlet Knights will be facing off against five 2012 NCAA Championship tournament participants. RU’s BIG EAST games are split between three home and away contests.

“I think it will be very exciting for the players, parents, alumni and fans of Rutgers lacrosse this season,” said Brecht. “We feel this is a great schedule that is very competitive and will be a challenge for our current student-athletes. It will also help attract top recruits that we are in front of that want to come to Rutgers and challenge themselves to be the best student-athletes that they can be by competing both in the classroom and on the lacrosse field.”

Brecht enters his second season as Rutgers’ leader “On the Banks” after an initial 6-9 campaign in 2012. On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Brecht-led Scarlet Knights start the 2013 season at home against non-conference foe Manhattan. The following weekend, RU remains home to take on Air Force on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. Rutgers finishes the three-game home stand on Tuesday, Feb. 19 against Wagner.

Following a trip to UMBC in Catonsville, Md., on Saturday, Feb. 23, the Scarlet Knights then play in three consecutive home contests against Stony Brook on Saturday, March 2, Holy Cross on Tuesday, March 5 and Army on Saturday, March 9. Stony Brook was a 2012 NCAA Championship qualifier.

BIG EAST action commences with a trip to Queens, N.Y., on Saturday, March 16 to play St. John’s, a 2012 BIG EAST Championship qualifier.

League competition continues when the Scarlet Knights play Notre Dame at home on Sunday, March 24 and Providence on Saturday, March 30. Notre Dame advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship last season.

RU then hits the road for another conference game against 2012 BIG EAST Championship participant Villanova (Saturday, April 6). The Scarlet Knights return home to play a non-conference contest against Princeton (Tuesday, April 9), a team that made an appearance in the 2012 NCAA Championship.

Rutgers starts up BIG EAST play again at the Carrier Dome, facing Syracuse on Saturday, April 13. The Orange were the BIG EAST Championship winner last season, earning automatic qualification to the NCAA Championship.

The Scarlet Knights play their final two games of the regular season at home, playing Duke on Saturday, April 20 and conference opponent Georgetown on Saturday, April 27.
