  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 11, 2013) – Sophomore GK Kris Alleyne (New City, N.Y.) and junior FO Joe Nardella (Cazenovia, N.Y.) were each named 2014 Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook DI All-Americans, it was announced Tuesday.

"After the seasons both Joe and Kris had last year, this is a great honor that each of them earned and deserve,” said head coach Brian Brecht. “As a program, when you have a strong faceoff game and strong goalie play, it allows your team to compete at the highest level. Individually, having those two positions at and above 60 percent (save percentage and faceoff win percentage) is very impressive. It is an honor to have our student-athletes recognized, as I know each of them would like to see their individual play spark an opportunity to play in the postseason with their teammates."

Alleyne was a force between the posts for the Scarlet Knights in his rookie season, finishing fourth in the nation and first in the conference with 14.00 saves per game.  His .596 save-percentage ranked seventh nationally. The New City, N.Y., native made a league-high 86 saves in conference play.

The freshman recorded 196 saves in 2013, sixth on Rutgers’ single-season list, despite missing one game due to injury. He tallied 10 or more saves in all but three games he played in and totaled 20 or more on three occasions.

Last season, Nardella ranked fourth in the nation with a .622 faceoff win percentage and third with 8.40 ground balls per game. He won 21 or more faceoffs in a game twice this season, including 27 against St. John’s (March 16). The 27 wins against the Red Storm ranked fourth in BIG EAST history and tied for ninth in NCAA history.

Nardella has played 30 games in his career, winning 331 of 563 faceoffs (.588 percent) and collecting 178 ground balls.
