  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Jan. 13, 2014) – Former Rutgers men’s lacrosse player Duncan Clancy (2010-13) was selected No. 61 overall (Round 8) by the Florida Launch in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft Friday. He joins Chris Mattes (2008-11) as a member of the Launch. Mattes was selected in the sixth round (45th overall) of the MLL Supplemental Draft on Dec. 11.

Clancy, who missed much of his final two seasons at Rutgers due to injury, finished his career with 65 points on 22 goals and 43 assists. As a sophomore in 2011, he led the Scarlet Knights in points (42) and assists (29), receiving the Alfred Sasser Trophy for leading the team in assists. In 2010, he saw action in all 14 games and earned the Al Twitchell Award for outstanding play by a freshman.

Clancy, a Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., native, was granted a medical redshirt from the NCAA and will play his final season of eligibility at Jacksonville University this spring, while attending classes to work towards his master’s degree.

Mattes was a member of the Boston Cannons and the Charlotte Hounds of the MLL last season, seeing action in one contest for the Cannons. At Rutgers, he received USILA Honorable Mention All-American honors in 2011 after winning 160-of-252 (.635) face-offs as a senior. Mattes was also named a 2011 BIG EAST First Team member.

Major League Lacrosse began play in 2001 to capitalize on the growing demand for world-class field lacrosse driven by dramatic growth in the U.S. lacrosse market. With a year-on-year attendance increase, Major League Lacrosse has continued to lead the sport of lacrosse into the mainstream of competitive team sports.

The Launch open their season vs. the Denver Outlaws on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
