PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 23, 2012) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse standouts Danielle Mascera (Verona, N.J.) and Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) have been selected to the 2012 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll, the organization announced Thursday.
All student-athletes were nominated by their schools and have achieved at least junior status academically.
A graduated senior, Mascera broke the 32-year-old RU single season record for assists in 2012, dishing out 34 helpers through 16 contests. Coming into the season with eight helpers, the senior attack passed Nancy Isenberg (28) to become the all-time leader for the Scarlet Knights. Mascera finished second in the league and 16th in the NCAA in assists per game. She ranked third on the team with 36 points, adding 12 ground balls and five draw controls.
An All-BIG EAST and IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic First Team honoree, Steinberg paced the Scarlet Knights with 48 points on 32 goals and 16 assists. The graduated midfielder added 38 draw controls, 21 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. Steinberg ranked fourth in the league in free position goals per game (0.88) and eighth in points per game (3.00).
The Scarlet Knights were previously recognized by the IWLCA as an Academic Squad for the fourth-consecutive season. Rutgers also earned a perfect APR score in May and had 16 members selected as a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
Rutgers finished the season 9-7 overall, including 4-4 in BIG EAST play and had four Scarlet Knights – Rebecca Alley (Tewksbury, N.J.), Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.), Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.), and Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) – named to the IWLCA Mid-Atlantic Region Team.
