Philadelphia, Pa. (February 19, 2013) – Playing for the first time in 10 days, the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team heads to Philadelphia, Pa., to face Temple on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. at Geasey Field.

In their season opener, the Scarlet Knights (1-0) dominated Manhattan, 15-5. Junior midfielder Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J) – selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday – registered a career-high eight-point day with five goals and three assists. Senior midfielder Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) also tallied five goals, matching a career-high. In the net, senior captain Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) grabbed three saves for the win.
Rutgers stands 6-17 in the all-time series against Temple. The two teams last met on Feb. 22, 2012 at the RU Turf Field. The Owls edged the Scarlet Knights, 12-11 despite five points from Ali Steinberg. In the last meeting in Philadelphia, RU earned a 11-10 victory.
Temple (1-0) is coming off an 18-5 win over Niagara. Senior midfielders Kellee Pace and Charlotte Swavola paced the Owls with three goals apiece. Of the 11 scorers, four freshman were able to tally the first goal of their careers. Between the pipes for Temple will be senior Meghan Clothier, who stopped three shots in the win.
