Providence, R.I. (March 11, 2013) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse senior goalie Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. While in the cage, Kalata allowed just nine goals through two games as the Scarlet Knights defeated No. 20 Penn and Delaware.

In the upset of Penn, Kalata made five saves and corralled one ground ball. At Delaware, the goalie allowed just one goal through 44 minutes and turned away all five free position shots.

For the year, Kalata ranks second in the BIG EAST (with three-plus games) in save percentage (.523), second (with three-plus games) in goals against average (6.20) and fourth in saves per game (6.80).

This marks the third player of the week honor for Kalata and the first since 2010. The Scarlet Knights have been honored by the conference three times this season.

Rutgers – ranked No. 19 this week in the deBeer media poll – returns home for a midweek matchup against CAA foe Hofstra. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start on the RU Turf Field at the Stadium Complex.
