PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 11, 2013) – Wrapping up its home schedule, Rutgers women’s lacrosse hosts No. 8 Georgetown and No. 13 Loyola this weekend. RU and GU meet on Friday, April 19 at 3 p.m. while the Scarlet Knights and Greyhounds face off on April 21 at 1 p.m. Both games will be at the RU Turf Field at the Stadium Complex.
Sunday will serve as Senior Day for the Scarlet Knights. RU will be honoring Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.), Aimee Chotikul (Baltimore, Md.), Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.), Annie McGinley (Moorestown, N.J.), Rachel Schneeberger (Watertown, N.Y.) and Rachel Welch (Medford, N.J.).
Rutgers (9-4, 1-3 BIG EAST) earned its first BIG EAST victory against Villanova, 9-6, its last time out. Junior midfielder Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.) paced the team with two goals and an assist for a total of three points in the contest. McGinley and freshman Halley Barnes (Garnet Valley, Pa.) also notched two goals apiece.
Martinelli was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, after recording her 10th multi-goal game of the season in the match.
Between the pipes will be Kalata, who ranks second in the BIG EAST (with four-plus games) in goals against average (7.00) and second (with four-plus games) in save percentage (.475). The RU defense ranks No. 2 in the country, allowing just 6.62 goals per game.
GU holds a 19-3 all-time series record over RU. The last two meetings between the teams were decided by a total of three goals.
Georgetown (9-3, 3-1 BIG EAST) is coming off a 13-12 loss to Notre Dame, which broke a four-game win streak prior to the match. Sophomore attack Caroline Tarzian paces the Hoyas with 41 points, including 28 goals and 15 assists. Senior attack Rosie Corcoran leads the team in assists (17), and ranks second in goals (24).
In the net for the Hoyas will be junior Barb Black, who holds a 10.25 GAA with 53 saves. Head coach Rickey Fried is in his ninth season with the program.
Rutgers owns a 3-4 all-time series record against Loyola. The teams last squared off on April 20, 2012 - a 15-11 loss for RU.
Loyola (7-6, 3-1 BIG EAST) took home a 17-2 victory against Marquette its last time out and will face Villanova on Friday. Junior midfielder Marlee Paton leads the Greyhounds with 37 points, including 22 goals and 15 assists. Senior attack Joanna Dalton and sophomore attack Hannah Schmitt have each contributed 24 goals.
In the cage will be Molly Wolf, who maintains a 9.68 GAA with 78 saves. Head coach Jen Adams is in her fifth season with Loyola.
