Katrina Martinelli posted her 11th multi-goal game of the season with three scores.

Piscataway, N.J. (April 19, 2013) – Despite a hat trick from junior midfielder Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.), the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team dropped a 13-5 decision to No. 8 Georgetown on Friday afternoon at the RU Turf Field.

Freshman Halley Barnes (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and junior attack Megan Clements (Pennington, N.J.) also scored in the effort for the Scarlet Knights (9-5, 1-4).

Georgetown (10-3, 4-1) was paced by four players with two-plus goals. Meghan Farrell led the way with a hat trick as the Hoyas were able to score the first eight goals and manage the remainder of the contest.

The Hoyas controlled the first half, taking a 9-1 lead into the break. GU’s Hannah Franklin and Farrell each posted two goals over the first 30 minutes. Martinelli posted the lone RU score with 1:23 to play before halftime.

Georgetown opened the second half with two-straight goals to push the lead to 11-1. Rutgers fought back, registering the next four scores. Martinelli corralled a pass from redshirt senior Annie McGinley (Moorestown, N.J.) for the first goal before the junior charged to the net for her second. Clements split two defenders to push the score to 11-4 with 21:55 to play.

Barnes added a tally with 7:21 to play, rocketing a shot at the cage and pulling RU within seven, 12-5.  The Hoyas scored at the 1:19 mark to account for the final ledger.

Rutgers will hold its Senior Day on Sunday, April 21 vs. No. 13 Loyola. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the RU Turf Field at the Stadium Complex. The Scarlet Knights will be honoring six seniors.
