PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 25, 2013) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse hits the road for its final two games of the season against Louisville and Cincinnati this weekend. RU and UofL will take the field on Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m., while the Scarlet Knights and Bearcats face off on April 28 at 1 p.m.
Rutgers (9-6, 1-5 BIG EAST) suffered a 10-4 loss against No. 13 Loyola (Md.) in its final home match of the season. Despite the defeat, freshman Halley Barnes (Garnet Valley, Pa.) recorded two free position goals in the contest. Junior Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.) and freshman Chrissy Schreiber (East Meadow, N.Y.) each recorded a goal.
Martinelli paces the Scarlet Knights with 33 goals and nine assists for 42 points. Between the pipes will be senior Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.), who ranks second in the BIG EAST (with four-plus games) in save percentage (.461) and fourth (with four-plus games) in goals against average (7.44). The RU defense ranks No. 3 in the country, allowing just 7.27 goals per game.
Rutgers owns a 2-3 all-time series record against Louisville. The teams last faced off on April 13, 2012, where RU earned a 16-11 victory at home.
Louisville (9-6, 1-5 BIG EAST) recorded an 18-10 victory over Cincinnati its last time out. Junior midfielder Nikki Boltja leads the Cardinals with 64 points, including 54 goals and 10 assists. Redshirt senior midfielder Katie Oliverio paces the team with 37 assists, along with 23 goals of her own.
In the net for the Cardinals will be junior Ashley Herbst, who holds a 9.55 GAA with 77 saves. Head coach Kellie Young is in her sixth season with the program.
RU owns a 4-0 all-time series record over UC. The teams last squared off on April 15, 2012 - a 13-10 victory for RU.
Cincinnati (6-8, 0-6 BIG EAST) is currently on a four-game lose streak and will face Villanova on Friday. Redshirt senior midfielder Kylie Ramsland paces the Bearcats with 27 points, totaling 21 goals and six assists. Sophomore midfielder Megan Bell leads the squad with 23 goals.
In the cage will be freshman Meg Gulmi, who maintains an 11.77 GAA with 104 saves. Head coach Gina Oliver is in her first season with the Bearcats.
