Louisville, Ky. (April 26, 2013) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse (9-7, 1-6) dropped a 14-1 decision to Louisville on Friday afternoon at UofL Lax Stadium.
Redshirt senior Annie McGinley (Mooretown, N.J.) scored the lone goal for the Scarlet Knights. The Cardinals were paced by Nikki Boltja, who tallied five goals. Kaylin Morissette chipped in four scores.
Louisville (10-6, 2-5) entered the break with a 7-1 advantage. After the Cardinals registered two goals to open the scoring, McGinley corralled a pass from junior midfielder Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.) to pull within one at the 22:07 mark. UofL scored the next five goals, including two from Boltja, to take a six-point advantage into halftime.
The Cardinals continued their pace in the second half, scoring seven unanswered goals to account for the final tally.
Senior goalie Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) stopped seven shots, all over the first 30 minutes. Senior Aimee Chotikul (Baltimore, Md.) also saw action in net.
Jenny Vlahos (Manhasset, N.Y.) posted a solid day on defense, causing two turnovers while controlling two draws and scooping two ground balls.
Rutgers managed just six shots – including four on goal – while Louisville peppered the RU defense with 29 shots, including 22 on frame.
RU will play its final game of the season on Sunday, April 28 at Cincinnati. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
