PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 29, 2014) – Sophomore attacker Kim Kolodny (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and redshirt junior midfielder Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) of the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team were both named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Tuesday. Sbrilli and Kolodny accounted for over half of RU’s 11 goals in the squad’s one score win over Temple April 25.
The win put the Scarlet Knights in position to make their first appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament since 2008. No. 4 Rutgers (9-8, 3-4 BIG EAST) will face No. 1 Louisville (13-3, 7-0 BIG EAST) Thursday, May 1 in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. The 2014 BIG EAST Conference Tournament will be hosted by Georgetown University, with the championship contest slated for Saturday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m.
Kolodny recorded two critical goals against the Owls in the Scarlet Knights’ regular season finale at High Point Solutions Stadium. After the visitors battled back from a 3-0 deficit, Temple was able to force multiple tied scores and take a one-goal lead on three occasions. RU responded each time and evened the score, however, with Kolodny knotting the game at 10-10 with 6:15 on the clock and then finding the back of the net for the game-winner with 2:39 left to play.
Sbrilli generated more than half of the team’s total offense by recording a career-best six points. The midfielder scored four goals and assisted on two others, including the eventual game-winner with 2:39 remaining in regulation.
The performance marked Sbrilli’s fifth hat trick of the season, and her eighth multi-goal game of the campaign. Sbrilli leads Rutgers in both points (37) and goals (30) this season, and is third on the squad in draw controls (18).
The honors mark the eighth and ninth weekly awards of the season for Rutgers. Sbrilli has been named to the honor roll two other times, while redshirt sophomore midfielder Kristin Kocher (Medford, N.J.) and senior attacker Megan Clements (Pennington, N.J.) have each received the recognition once.
Redshirt freshman Amanda Currell (Moorestown, N.J.) is tied with Sbrilli for the team lead with three weekly accolades, including two Defensive Player of the Week awards and a nod to the honor roll.
For Kolodny, the honor is the first of her career.
