  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 21, 2014) – Recent graduate Chelsea Intrabartola (Commack, N.Y.) and assistant coach Katie Hertsch of the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team were two of 88 players selected for the tryout pool for the 2014-15 U.S. Women’s National Team, U.S. Lacrosse announced Wednesday. Tryouts will be held from June 13-15 at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

"As we enter the Big Ten we strive to raise our game and our program to the next level,” said head coach Laura Brand-Sias. “Having players and coaches involved at the international level is a part of that step. We are extremely proud of Chelsea and Katie and we wish them the best of luck with the process."

After the three-day tryout, approximately 36-40 players will be selected to the 2014-15 U.S. Women’s National Team, which will train as part of the lead-up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s World Cup in Surrey, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.

Intrabartola concluded her career “On the Banks” by earning All-BIG EAST Second Team honors, as well as a nod to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Mid Atlantic Second Team. A four-year standout on the defensive line for Rutgers, the senior captain started all 18 games and ranked second on the squad in caused turnovers this season to help the Scarlet Knights capture their first bid to the league tournament since 2008.

A 2011 graduate of Hofstra and defensive standout for the Pride, Hertsch completed her first season on the Rutgers coaching staff. Hertsch has been a member of the U.S. National Team since 2010 and helped lead the country to a gold medal in the FIL World Cup in Oshawa, Canada in 2013.
