February-22-03 Rutgers Sweeps Temple and Bridgeport in Record Night
PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers women’s gymnastics team (12-8, 0-5 EAGL) broke the team’s beam record for the second time this season en route to one of the program’s best-ever scores as the Scarlet Knights topped Temple and the University of Bridgeport. RU swept the meet with a 193.950, followed by the Owls’ 191.200 and Bridgeport’s 185.000.

EAST MEADOW, NY – The Rutgers men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at the 2003 BIG EAST Championships on Saturday at the Goodwill Games Pool. The RU women placed second, 150 points behind seven-time defending champion Notre Dame. The men finished in third place, 169.5 points back of Pittsburgh, who also won its seventh consecutive title on Saturday.

February-21-03 Rutgers Baseball Falls in Season Opener, 5-1
NORFOLK, VA – Old Dominion sophomore Justin Verlander, considered one of the nation’s top pitchers, limited Rutgers to just four hits and one run over 8.2 innings as the Scarlet Knights fell, 5-1, in their 2003 season opener. Verlander, the 2002 CAA Rookie of the Year, took a shutout into the ninth before allowing an RBI single to Matt Wolski (Hamilton, NJ). With the loss, RU falls to 0-1, while ODU improves to 2-2.

February-21-03 Rutgers Splits First Day of Action at FAU Worth Invitational
BOCA RATON, FL --The Rutgers softball team (2-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) opened the Florida Atlantic Tournament on Friday, Feb. 21 with an 8-1 loss to the UCLA Bruins (11-1), the top ranked team in the nation. The Scarlet Knights then bounced back to defeat Florida Atlantic University (7-7), 3-1.

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers women’s tennis team (2-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) loss to Virginia Tech late Friday night, 6-1, at the East Brunswick Tennis Center for its third loss of the season.

February-21-03 Women in Second, Men Third After Second Day of BIG EAST Championships
EAST MEADOW, NY – The Rutgers men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have completed 27 events at the 2003 BIG EAST Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center. The women find themselves in second place after day two of the three-day event with 428 points, 73 behind Notre Dame. The men sit in third place with 364.5 points.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers women’s basketball sophomore Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named one of 12 finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which honors the nation’s top point guard in women’s Division I college basketball.

HARTFORD, CT (Ticker) -- Tony Robertson scored a career-high 24 points as 24th-ranked Connecticut pulled away for a 87-70 Big East Conference victory over Rutgers.
