PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 9, 2012) – The Scarlet Knights finish the season in Chicago, Ill., taking on DePaul on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. ET. Rutgers (18-11, 4-10 BIG EAST) downed the Blue Demons in five sets at College Ave. Gym on Nov. 3.
DePaul (8-18, 3-10 BIG EAST) Notes
- The Blue Demons are 3-10 in conference play and are coming off a 3-0 loss to Seton Hall (Nov. 4). On Nov. 3, Rutgers hosted DePaul and beat the Blue Demons in five sets at College Ave. Gym by scores of 25-14, 25-17, 22-25, 21-25 and 15-11.
- Offensively, Vesela Zapryanova leads the squad with 3.14 kills per set. Laura Witt provides the assists, tallying 6.47 per set. Allyson Rooks leads the team defensively, collecting 3.51 digs per set.
- The Blue Demons rank fifth in conference play with 1.24 service aces per set.
- DePaul is coached by Nadia Edwards, who is in her third season.
The Scarlet Knights lead the all-time series with the Blue Demons, 5-4, with the last eight meetings coming in BIG EAST play. Rutgers picked up a five-set home win over DePaul on Nov. 3. Rutgers first played the Blue Demons in 1991 at the DePaul Fall Classic.
Last Time Out
In its home finale on Nov. 7, the Rutgers volleyball team fell in four sets to St. John’s at College Ave. Gym. The Scarlet Knights were downed by set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 22-25. This was the second contest between the two squads this season with each team winning one match.
With the win over DePaul (Nov. 3), Rutgers secured its most wins in a season (18) since the 2000 team recorded 23. The four conference victories are the most since the 2005 squad picked up six. Rutgers is guaranteed to finish with a winning record for the first time since 2004.
Freshman Sarah Schmid (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) has a .362 hitting percentage so far in 2012. Currently, she would rank third all-time at Rutgers on the single-season hitting percentage list. Last season, senior teammate Alex Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) compiled a mark of .383, second on the all-time list.
Setting It Up
Senior setter Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) moved into second place in Rutgers history in assists against Seton Hall (Oct. 19). She has 4,202 for her career. She moved into second on the single-season assists list in the match against St. John’s (Nov. 7) with 1,289 in 2012. Zielinski accumulated 1,151 last season, sixth all-time at Rutgers. The senior has also totaled 1,119 digs in her career, fifth on the program’s all-time list. She has tallied 341 digs this season, 10th on the Rutgers all-time list.
Junior libero Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) surpassed the 1,000 career digs mark in the loss at Villanova (Sept. 28). She currently sits at 1,082 career digs. The transfer, who is in her first season with the Scarlet Knights, has totaled 356 digs and moved into seventh in the win over Syracuse (Oct. 12) and is just 13 assists out of moving into sole possession of fifth.
Senior Alex Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) has totaled 899 career kills, closing in on 10th place all-time at Rutgers, held by Courtney Mechling (1995-98), who totaled 905. Classmate Kylie Orr (Kettering, Ohio) surpassed 500 kills in the match against St. John’s (Nov. 7) and now has 511 for her career, including 279 in 2012.

Senior setter Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) ranked 30th in the NCAA through Nov. 4 with 11.12 assists per set.
Individual Conference Rankings
Senior setter Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) is second in the BIG EAST with 11.21 assists per set. Freshman Sarah Schmid (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) is second in the league with a .362 hitting percentage. Classmate Alex Lassa (Eagle, Colo.) is sixth in the BIG EAST with 3.43 kills per set. Overall, Rutgers is fifth in kills (13.35/s) and assists (12.48/s) and fourth in digs (16.75/s). In conference play, Zielinski is third in assists per set with 10.90. Freshman Ronnie Komisarek (San Mateo, Calif.) ranks fourth in conference play with 0.38 service aces per set.
Closing in on Milestones
Junior Tracy Wright (Fair Lawn, N.J.) has 356 digs this season, 13 away from sole possession of fifth place on the Rutgers single-season list. Senior Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) is seven digs away from moving into ninth on the single-season list and 15 away from tying her for seventh. Senior Alex Jones (Chesapeake, Va.) is six kills out of 10th place on Rutgers’ career list.
